Britain’s Got Talent star Julia Carlile broke down in tears on the U.K. program “This Morning” as she discussed the life-changing surgery she had undergone on her back so that she could dance again.

The 15-year-old lead member of the five-part dancing group MerseyGirls said she had to have “seven ribs broken” in order for her scoliosis to be treated after judge Simon Cowell funded £175,000 surgery in the United States.

With tears in her eyes Julia told hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes: “In America they went in on my side and put screws on the vertebrae that had curved and then a flexible cord through them so when I grow it should straighten.
