Streaming giant Hulu has decided to pull the plug on its murder mystery series “Death and Other Details” after just one season. The announcement comes a mere three weeks following the Season 1 finale, which aired on March 5, as reported by Variety.
The series, set against the backdrop of the opulent world of the global elite, centered around Imogene Scott (played by Violett Beane), who finds herself embroiled in a locked room murder mystery aboard a lavish Mediterranean ocean liner and must work with the world’s greatest detective, Rufus Cotesworth (Mandy Patinkin), to clear her name.
Despite a talented ensemble cast featuring Lauren Patten, Rahul Kohli, Angela Zhou, Hugo Diego Garcia, Pardis Saremi, and Linda Emond, along with a guest appearance by Sofia Rosinsky (known for her role in Amazon’s “Paper Girls”) in two episodes, “Death and Other Details” struggled to gain traction with viewers. The series failed to secure a spot in the Nielsen Top 10 streaming rankings throughout its run and currently holds a 55% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The series was helmed by Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams, who served as writers, executive producers, and showrunners. Marc Webb directed the pilot and executive produced alongside Mark Martin for Black Lamb, with David Petrarca also on board as an executive producer. “Death and Other Details” was produced by ABC Signature.
As streaming platforms continue to assess the performance of their original content, the cancellation of “Death and Other Details” underscores the competitive nature of the industry and the challenges faced by new series in capturing and retaining audience attention.
