Disney’s ‘Space Mountain’ Movie Blasts Off with ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Showrunners at the Helm

In an exciting development for Disney fans and thrill-seekers alike, the iconic Space Mountain roller coaster is set to make its big-screen debut. The live-action adaptation of the beloved Disneyland attraction has landed the talented duo of Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec as its writers.

Appelbaum and Nemec, known for their work on Amazon’s spy series ‘Citadel’ and Netflix’s ‘Cowboy Bebop’ adaptation, bring a wealth of experience to the project. The pair have previously collaborated on successful features such as ‘Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ and the live-action ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ films.

Space Mountain, a staple of the Tomorrowland section in Disney parks worldwide, has captivated visitors since its debut in 1975 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The indoor roller coaster, known for its thrilling twists and turns in near-darkness, has since become a fan favorite across five of the six Disney parks globally.

Unlike other popular Disney rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain lacks a specific theme or memorable characters. This blank slate allows Appelbaum and Nemec the creative freedom to craft an original story inspired by the ride’s space theme and exhilarating experience.

Jonathan Eirich from Rideback, the production company behind Netflix’s successful live-action ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ series, is set to produce the feature alongside Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures. Harold previously served as the project’s writer, with Ryan Halprin of Rideback executive producing.

As Appelbaum and Nemec embark on this exciting journey to bring Space Mountain to the silver screen, plot details remain tightly under wraps. Fans eagerly await updates on the story that will capture the essence of this beloved attraction and transport audiences on an unforgettable adventure beyond the stars.

As Appelbaum and Nemec begin working on the ‘Space Mountain’ movie, plot details are being kept confidential. The project is still in the early stages of development, and it remains to be seen how the writers will approach the story and capture the essence of the beloved attraction. With the involvement of experienced producers from Rideback and Safehouse Pictures, the ‘Space Mountain’ movie has the potential to become a noteworthy addition to Disney’s lineup of live-action adaptations. However, the success of the project will depend on various factors, including the strength of the script, the direction the film takes, and its reception by audiences. As the project moves forward, more information will likely become available, allowing fans and industry observers to form a clearer picture of what to expect from this highly anticipated adaptation.
