Disney+ Drops Surprise ‘Bluey’ Episode, Continuing the Show’s Global Success

NOTE: This article is 9 months old and may not include the most recent information.

Disney+ has once again delighted fans of the popular Australian animated series ‘Bluey’ by releasing a surprise episode titled “Surprise” on Sunday, April 21. The episode will be available on the streaming platform at 12 a.m. PT and will also air on Disney Junior at 7 a.m. PT and on Disney Channel at 7:30 a.m. PT, with multiple airings throughout the day.

This new episode follows the recent release of “Ghostbasket” on April 7 and the highly acclaimed super-sized special “The Sign,” which captivated audiences worldwide. Created and written by Joe Brumm, ‘Bluey’ revolves around the adventures of a tireless Blue Heeler dog named Bluey, who lives with her Mum, Dad, and younger sister, Bingo. The series showcases Bluey’s boundless energy as she engages in imaginative games that unfold in unexpected and humorous ways, drawing her family and the entire neighborhood into her world of fun.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Brumm shared his inspirations for ‘Bluey,’ citing the comedy ‘Gavin and Stacey’ as a significant influence. He admired how the show genuinely appealed to multiple generations, much like ‘The Simpsons’ did in its early days. This cross-generational appeal became a challenge Brumm set for himself when creating ‘Bluey,’ aiming to make a children’s show that would also entertain parents.

Brumm also revealed that ‘Bluey’ was conceived as an Australian take on the British animated series ‘Peppa Pig.’ He appreciated how ‘Peppa Pig’ felt distinctly English without relying on cliches or overt patriotism, incorporating subtle elements of everyday English life into its background. Similarly, Brumm sought to capture the essence of Australian life in ‘Bluey’ without resorting to stereotypical representations like kangaroos and koalas.

As fans eagerly await the premiere of “Surprise,” the continued success and global appeal of ‘Bluey’ demonstrate the power of relatable storytelling and the importance of creating content that resonates with audiences of all ages.
