Ratings: “America’s Got Talent” Best Finale In Five Years

On Wednesday, the finale of the first AGT with the return of co-creator Simon Cowell as judge clocked its top finale numbers in five years, since September 14, 2011’s 3.6. The season finale averaged 14.1 million viewers overall from 8-10 PM ET to dominate primetime in the demo, total viewers and other key measures. The competition series grew 35% week to week in the demo and 33% in total viewers.

Bolstered by its AGT lead-in, Blindspot jumped 23% compared to its season finale in the demo (1.6 vs 1.3 on May 23), and 24% in total viewers (7.3 million vs 5.9M). Behind the 3.1 demo rating of last September’s much anticipated Blindspot unveiling, the NBC drama bagged its most watched episode since November 16.

One night earlier, AGT drew its largest audience in five years with its performance finale. Part 1 of the NBC talent competition averaged 13.7 million viewers and a 2.7 among adults 18-49 in the fast nationals. Those numbers were up from previous Tuesday (2.5, 12 million) as well as up from the same night last year by 13% in the demo and by 20% in total viewers. The performance finale also matches its season high in 18-49 and hit a five-year high in total viewers (best since Sept. 14, 2011, 14.4 million). The summer staple already has been renewed for next year with all four judges set to return.
