Bella Ramsey has brought plenty of strong-willed characters to life on screen over the years, from their breakout role as steadfast Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones to the recent Emmy-nominated part as fierce survivor Ellie Williams in The Last of Us adaptation. But at only 20 years old, the versatile young actor feels they still have an acting itch left to scratch – playing an alluring and multi-dimensional villain.
In an interview with LADbible this week, Ramsey opened up about their desire to sink their teeth into a more sinister role in the future. “I’ve not really played a villain yet. So I want to play a baddy,” they admitted. “But like a really interesting, intricate, complex baddy.”
Ramsey even has some specific antagonists in mind too – pointing to infamous villains like The Joker and Hannibal Lecter as enticing archetypes they would want to take on. Exploring the motivations and darkness lurking within such an antagonist would mark exciting uncharted territory for the performer.
So while audiences may be used to seeing a headstrong hero whenever Ramsey shows up on screen, the emerging talent clearly has dreams of unleashing their inner villain sometime soon instead. It would likely be a thrilling showcase of their range that portends even more eclectic roles still to come in this budding career.
