Christina Ricci Shares How the Industry Has Changed: Younger Actors Now Have More Freedom

In a recent episode of The View, Christina Ricci, a two-time Emmy-nominated actress, opened up about the stark differences between the entertainment industry when she was a young actress and what it’s like today. Ricci expressed her admiration for the younger actors on the Showtime series Yellowjackets, who have more freedom and control over their careers.

During the interview, cohost Sara Haines asked Ricci about the differences in experiences between the younger cast members of Yellowjackets and her own early days in Hollywood, with roles in movies like Casper and The Addams Family.

Ricci, 43, responded, “It’s really great. Us older ladies talk about it all the time. It’s amazing to see that they don’t necessarily have to go through the things we had to go through. They’re able to say, ‘I don’t want to do this sex scene,’ ‘I’m not going to be naked.’ They can set boundaries for themselves that we were never allowed to do. Someone threatened to sue me once because I didn’t want to do this sex scene in a certain way. It’s really changed and it’s great to see.”

In Yellowjackets, Ricci plays the adult version of Misty, a survivor of a plane crash that left an all-female high school soccer team stranded in a remote forest. Sammi Hanratty plays the younger version of Misty in the series.

The fact that younger actors today have more control over their work and can set boundaries is indeed a significant and positive change in the industry. It’s essential for actors to have a voice and feel empowered to make decisions regarding their careers and what they’re comfortable with. Christina Ricci’s experience and observations serve as an important reminder of how far the industry has come, and how it must continue to evolve to ensure a safer and more inclusive environment for all.
