Horror author R.L. Stine recently took to social media to announce exciting news – a new ‘Fear Street’ film is slated to go into production soon for Netflix! This latest film will be based specifically on Stine’s book ‘The Prom Queen’ from his wildly popular young adult horror series.
“I can finally announce that a new Fear Street movie is about to go into production for Netflix. It’s based on my Fear Street book, The Prom Queen. Good news!” Stine wrote in his announcement post.
Fans of the creepy series have reason to celebrate, as this marks the first time one of Stine’s ‘Fear Street’ books will be directly adapted into a film. The previous trilogy of films released on Netflix over three weeks in 2021 took inspiration from the books, but did not base the stories on specific titles.
Netflix Head of Film Scott Stuber had previously confirmed last November that a standalone ‘Fear Street’ movie based on one of Stine’s books was being developed. “There’s one standalone that we’re working on right now that we’re once again trying to get the script right, but I like it very much, and so does the team,” he told Collider at the time.
With Stine’s latest announcement, it’s now confirmed that this new standalone will bring the iconic villain from ‘The Prom Queen’ book to life on screen for the first time. Expect Netflix to capture all the spooky thrills and chills from the popular YA book for horror fans of all ages to enjoy.
Stine’s legions of loyal readers can likely look forward to additional ‘Fear Street’ films beyond this one as well, as Stuber acknowledged the plethora of material available to mine in the series. “Obviously, there’s a lot of books,” he said.
