Hudson Stone is not just riding the wave from his first movie role, he is now stepping into his next chapter as a recording artist gearing up for his first arena tour. The Camp Rock 3 actor, recently signed to Hollywood Records, has announced a new single called “Talk,” arriving September 24, just a day before he kicks off the Worlds Collide Concert Tour on September 25 in Palm Desert, California, at Acrisure Arena.
Stone earned his introduction to a wider audience this summer with his screen debut in “Camp Rock 3,” where he played the role of Desi. That premiere landed right as his music career was taking off, and “Talk” continues the momentum from his debut single “Overthinker,” which has racked up nearly two million streams and landed a spot on Rolling Stone’s list of songs you need to know.
Stone wrote “Talk” alongside Josh Varnadore and Coleton Rubin of One Republic, along with Simon Oscroft of almost monday and One Republic. The song digs into the distance between loving someone and actually being able to talk to them. “Talk is about knowing that you love someone so much that you sometimes overlook the most beautiful and most important part of a relationship, the ability to communicate,” Stone said. “At the time I wrote this song, I was in a relationship that was complicated. I felt like no matter how much I put in energetically and how hard I loved, it got lost in emotional static. I’ve heard men and women historically speak different languages by nature and I’m learning that may be really true. Some important values were not met. But sometimes it’s also that when you are just trying to be heard the listening part doesn’t work great. Or, sometimes you just don’t want to hear what’s actually being said. Or not said. Love is confusing.”
Stone counts Dominic Fike, John Mayer, The Strokes and Leon Bridges among his influences, a mix that comes through in his effortless, guitar centered songwriting and modernized take on classic indie sound. Born and raised in Los Angeles to an Australian father and a half Korean mother, he picked up a guitar at five years old and has not put it down since.
