Seth MacFarlane is trading Family Guy scripts for felt and fur this fall, announcing a full studio album dedicated entirely to the music of the Muppets. Seth MacFarlane Sings The Muppets arrives September 18 on Verve Records and Republic Records, marking the actor and singer’s tenth studio album and his first full length collection built around a single franchise rather than a genre or songbook theme.

The 14 track album pulls its selections from the first three Muppet feature films, The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper and The Muppets Take Manhattan, along with staples from Sesame Street and The Muppet Show. The release lands deliberately close to the 50th anniversary of The Muppet Show, and MacFarlane has described the project as both a tribute to that legacy and a fresh musical take on songs many listeners already know by heart.

The tracklist leans on some of the most recognizable names in the Muppets songbook, including longtime collaborators Joe Raposo, Paul Williams and Jeff Moss. Andrew Cottee handled the arrangements, with John Wilson conducting, the same team behind several of MacFarlane’s previous big band and Sinatra adjacent releases. Rainbow Connection, Bein’ Green and Halfway Down The Stairs are among the songs getting the MacFarlane treatment, alongside deeper cuts like Couldn’t We Ride and Happiness Hotel. One track, Movin’ Right Along, features a guest vocal from Liz Gillies. “Bein’ Green” arrived as the album’s lead single on August 11 and is streaming now ahead of the September 18 release.

MacFarlane has been promoting the album heavily on social media over the past week, and the timing lines up with his appearance at Disney’s D23 fan event in Anaheim, where he joined a panel this weekend dedicated to the Muppets songbook and spoke about what drew him to the material. It continues a run of standards focused releases for MacFarlane, who put out Lush Life: The Lost Sinatra Arrangements last year and has built a parallel career as a big band vocalist alongside his television and film work.

Seth MacFarlane Sings The Muppets is available for preorder now ahead of its September 18 release, with the album already up for presave on streaming platforms.
