Sophia Anne Caruso Releases New Single like i like u Ahead of Debut Album

Sophia Anne Caruso has released her new single, like i like u, out now on streaming platforms. The song marks the actor and singer’s second release in a matter of weeks, following the release earlier this month of Higher State, a collaboration with Sky Lakota-Lynch, with both tracks building toward her debut full length album.

That album, On Ecstatic, is set for release on September 18 and finds Caruso leaning fully into a hyperpop sound while keeping the songwriting personal and direct. Like Higher State, the new single was written with Jake Prein, continuing the electronic, emotionally open style the two have been developing together. The record has been billed as an exploration of hope, memory, and connection, and of what it means to choose other people even as the world feels increasingly pulled apart.

Caruso built her name on the stage before turning her attention to pop music. She originated the role of Lydia Deetz in Broadway’s Beetlejuice in 2019, a performance that earned her a Theatre World Award, and she has also starred in David Bowie’s Lazarus, The Nether, Blackbird, and Grey House. On screen, she played Sophie in Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil, and she is set to appear as Miss Goldenweek in the streamer’s second season of its live action One Piece series. Music has been a steady side project for Caruso since 2020, with earlier singles Toys, Goodbye, and Snow & Ice, but On Ecstatic marks her most ambitious push into the format yet.

Caruso is not slowing down on the theater side either. She was recently announced as the lead in the world premiere of Duncan Sheik’s Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen, an off-Broadway musical adapted from Moyoco Anno’s manga of the same name. Caruso will play Colette, a young dreamer finding her voice as a writer in early twentieth century Paris, when the show begins performances on September 25 ahead of an October 15 opening night. Between a new stage lead and a debut album arriving the same season, it is shaping up to be one of the busiest stretches yet for the multi-hyphenate performer.
