Jason Reitman, the talented director behind the recent Ghostbusters relaunch, is teaming up with Sony Pictures once again. This time, he’s set to bring the fascinating behind-the-scenes story of the premiere of Saturday Night Live (SNL) to the big screen. Reitman will join forces with his Ghostbusters: Afterlife co-writer, Gil Kenan, to co-write the script for this yet-to-be-titled movie.

The film will take audiences back to October 11, 1975, the night a group of passionate young comedians and writers forever changed television. It will recount the true story of the events that unfolded behind the scenes in the moments leading up to the first-ever SNL broadcast. Expect to experience the chaos and magic of a revolution that nearly didn’t happen, with the countdown to the now-famous words, “Live From New York, it’s Saturday Night.”

To ensure the story’s authenticity, Reitman and Kenan conducted an extensive series of interviews with the surviving cast, writers, and crew from that iconic night. The duo is currently working on the sequel to Sony Pictures’ Ghostbusters: Afterlife, with Kenan as the director.

Reitman and Kenan will also be producing the SNL project, alongside their longtime partners Jason Blumenfeld and Erica Mills. Reitman is known for his acclaimed work on films like Thank You for Smoking, Juno, Up in the Air, and Young Adult. In addition to directing, he has produced hits like Whiplash, Demolition, and the cult favorite Jennifer’s Body.

Meanwhile, Kenan has directed films such as the Oscar-nominated Monster House, City of Ember, and last year’s A Boy Called Christmas. With their combined talents, this behind-the-scenes look at SNL’s opening night is sure to be a must-watch for fans of the legendary TV show.
