According to a statement released by her record label, Judith Durham, who was a prominent figure in Australian folk music and the lead singer of The Seekers, has passed away. Her age was 79.

It was thanks to Durham that Australian artists were able to break through to an international audience. The Seekers, an Australian pop band that was formed in 1962, are widely regarded as the first band from their country to achieve mainstream success in both the United Kingdom and the United States.

A number of the band’s songs became hits, including “Georgy Girl,” “I’ll Never Find Another You,” and “A World of Our Own.”

Durham left The Seekers in 1968 to explore a solo career and has since released several albums under her own name. Despite this, the singer continued to reunite with The Seekers and tour with them over the subsequent decades.
