Another song from Panem has arrived. Gigi Perez released “Favor” today, the latest track from The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album), the soundtrack to the new Hunger Games prequel film opening in theaters November 20.
Perez, a platinum-certified Cuban-American singer, songwriter and producer, has loved the series since she was 12, and she wrote “Favor” out of her own loss. “Writing this song allowed me to share another part of who I am, drawing from my own experiences with grief and the longing to reconnect with the ones I love who are no longer on this earth,” she said. “It is a privilege to share something so personal within a story that has meant so much to me for so long.”
The full album arrives November 13 via MCA and is available for pre-order now. GRAMMY-winning producer Dave Cobb executive produced the record, which gathers previously unreleased songs from 29 artists across genres, each one created for the film’s world.
Sunrise on the Reaping travels back 24 years before the original Hunger Games story to follow sixteen-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, into the 50th Hunger Games, the Second Quarter Quell. Mckenna Grace co-stars as fellow tribute Maysilee Donner.
“Favor” is the newest entry in a soundtrack this site has followed single by single, after Noah Kahan’s “Draw You Out” in September and The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Black Stars” earlier this month. Tickets for the film are on sale now ahead of the November 20 opening.
