The Smashing Pumpkins have released “Black Stars,” their new song for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and it is out tonight with an official music video. The track is the newest preview of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album), the companion album arriving one week ahead of the film.
The song’s origins date back to sessions for a Billy Corgan solo album. When the invitation arrived to contribute an original song to the film, Corgan brought in producer Butch Vig to help select the song that best complemented the world of The Hunger Games, reuniting the pair behind Siamese Dream.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album) arrives November 13 via MCA and is available for pre-order now. The album’s rollout opened in September with “Draw You Out”; as TDN reported then, Noah Kahan leads the soundtrack, and “Black Stars” now joins his song as the album’s latest single.
The film reaches theaters everywhere November 20. Directed by Francis Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping follows sixteen-year-old Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, the Second Quarter Quell, where he forms an alliance with fellow District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner (Mckenna Grace) and joins a coalition determined to challenge the Capitol’s control from inside the arena.
