Post Malone Joins Elmo for New Weather-Ready Special Streaming Now on Netflix and PBS Kids

A new half-hour special called Storm on Sesame Street began streaming today on Netflix, with a same-day broadcast on PBS Kids. The special follows Elmo, Abby Cadabby, and the rest of the neighborhood as they get ready for an approaching storm and then work together once it passes and the street looks different. Big Bird ends up without his nest after the storm hits, and the rest of the block bands together to help him rebuild, showing young viewers that one small act of help can add up to something bigger for the whole community.

The special brings in two guest stars from outside the Muppet world. Grammy nominated artist Post Malone stops by to perform an original song called “A Little Help,” an upbeat number about neighbors leaning on each other to get through hard moments and rebuild together. Comedian Michelle Buteau also appears alongside the Sesame Street cast. Malone’s stop on Sesame Street adds an unexpected line to a resume that already includes a recent run atop Billboard’s Hot 100.

Storm on Sesame Street builds on a franchise tradition that goes back more than two decades. Sesame Workshop’s original Sesame Street Gets Through a Storm premiered on PBS Kids in 2001 and was re-aired in the years following Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy to help families process what they had just been through. This new special marks the start of a broader initiative from Sesame Workshop aimed at helping kids and families prepare for and recover from extreme weather, an issue the organization says is only becoming more common. Funding for the project comes from longtime partner PSEG Foundation.

Alongside the special, Sesame Workshop has rolled out a set of free resources available in both English and Spanish through the Sesame Street website, including refreshed family guides on weather preparedness and new printable activities meant to support kids’ emotional well being around environmental stress. Storm on Sesame Street is streaming now on Netflix and airing on PBS Kids, with a YouTube release planned for September.
