Horror icon R.L. Stine has delivered exciting news for Fear Street fans. In a video spotlighted at IGN Fan Fest, the author revealed that Fear Street: Prom Queen, the latest R-rated chapter in Netflix’s film series, will arrive on May 23. This fourth installment lands four years after the 2021 trilogy—Fear Street: 1994, 1978, and 1666—rolled out across three weeks, captivating viewers.
Stine introduced the update with his signature wit: “Most people would say killing teenagers is not a good thing. But here I am, and here you are for another chapter of Fear Street.” Directed by Matt Palmer (Calibre), the film fits between the events of 1994 and 1978, pulling from Stine’s Fear Street novel series, which began in 1989 with The New Girl.
The story centers on Shadyside High’s prom season, where a clique of in-crowd girls gets rattled by an outsider’s entry into the prom queen contest. Soon, the candidates start disappearing under eerie circumstances. Palmer collaborated with Donald Mcleary on the screenplay.
The cast includes India Fowler (The Nevers), Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), Fina Strazza (Paper Girls), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty), and Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), alongside Chris Klein (American Pie), Lili Taylor (Outer Range), and Katherine Waterston (The End We Start From). Additional names like Ariana Greenblatt, Darrin Baker, and Rebecca Ablack round out the ensemble.
Slated for a late spring drop, Fear Street: Prom Queen ties into prom season, leaning into its teen-horror roots. It continues Netflix’s run with Stine’s franchise, celebrated for its nostalgic edge and bold scares. Stine’s announcement video, now live online, offers more to explore.
