In anticipation of the upcoming release of “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the highly anticipated sequel to “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” the iconic “Ghostbusters” theme song received a unique and nostalgic makeover on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The performance featured original “Ghostbusters” stars Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, along with the song’s original performer, Ray Parker Jr., joining forces with host Jimmy Fallon and the show’s resident band, The Roots.

The ensemble used an array of classroom instruments to create a charming and stripped-down version of the beloved tune. This creative twist added a playful and whimsical touch to the performance, showcasing the timeless appeal of the “Ghostbusters” theme song.

“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” set to release on March 22, marks the fifth installment in the Ghostbusters franchise. Directed by Gil Kenan, the film boasts an impressive cast, including returning stars Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace, as well as new additions like Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, and Celeste O’Connor. The original Ghostbusters, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, are also set to reprise their roles.

The film’s plot picks up from where “Afterlife” left off, with the Spenglers moving to New York City to join forces with the original Ghostbusters, now funded by Winston Zeddemore. Their summer takes a chilling turn when an ancient evil is unleashed, threatening to freeze New York City and the rest of the world.

Director Gil Kenan, known for his work on “Monster House” and the “Poltergeist” remake, brings a blend of scares and family-friendly storytelling to the table. The film is written and produced by Jason Reitman, who directed “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” ensuring continuity within the franchise while striving for a fresh narrative approach.

As fans eagerly await the release of “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the nostalgic performance by Ray Parker Jr., Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Jimmy Fallon, and The Roots serves as a delightful reminder of the enduring legacy of the “Ghostbusters” franchise and the excitement surrounding the upcoming film.
