WNBA fans got a glimpse of their top draft pick, Caitlin Clark, in action this week, but not on the court she’ll soon call home. Clark, the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer from the University of Iowa, made a surprise appearance at the Indiana Pacers’ Game 3 playoff matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The Pacers secured a 121-118 victory, but Clark also stole the show for many fans. Before the game, she revved up the nearly 17,000-strong crowd by starting the engine of a replica IndyCar. Later, she joined her Indiana Fever teammates during a halftime appearance, tossing T-shirts into the stands.

Clark’s presence seems to be igniting a national buzz for the WNBA. Ticket sales for the upcoming season are reportedly on the rise, and some teams, including the Las Vegas Aces, the reigning WNBA champions, are even considering moving games to larger venues to accommodate the anticipated interest.

The WNBA preseason kicks off on May 3rd with a game in Dallas, and with Clark set to join the Indiana Fever, there’s a palpable sense of excitement building around the league. Her electrifying play and undeniable talent promise to be a force to be reckoned with.

Basketball fans nationwide will be eager to see how Caitlin Clark impacts the Indiana Fever and the WNBA as the season unfolds.
