Turner Classic Movies (TCM) has announced programming and events to commemorate the channel’s 30th anniversary in 2024.
The 15th TCM Classic Film Festival occurring in April will honor film historian Jeanine Basinger with the Robert Osborne Award. Tributes are also planned for actor Billy Dee Williams and makeup artist Lois Burwell. Later in 2024, TCM will release a podcast centered around movies and moviemakers titled The Plot Thickens, following their latest podcast Talking Pictures.
In April, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood will introduce a Classic Movie Tour in collaboration with TCM. Ongoing TCM hosts named are Ben Mankiewicz, Alicia Malone, Dave Karger, Jacqueline Stewart, and Eddie Muller.
Recent TCM premieres include a 6-part documentary series called The Power of Film, analyzing memorable American films. A program commencing in April dubbed Two for One will feature famed directors co-hosting double features on Saturday nights, with Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg among the slated guests.
Scheduled later in the year is a partnership between TCM and The New Republic spotlighting impactful political movies. A Scorsese-produced documentary titled Made in London will also arrive on TCM.
The 2024 TCM Classic Film Festival occurring April 18-21 holds a “Most Wanted: Crime and Justice” theme. Restored versions of films such as The Searchers and North by Northwest will premiere, accompanied by additional law and order programming.
