It’s the beginning of the end for one of Netflix’s biggest hits. After years of rumors and delays, production has begun on the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things,” the streaming giant confirmed this week much to fans’ bittersweet excitement.
A cast photo of the beloved Hawkins gang was shared on social media along with the announcement, marked by the caption “THIS IS A CODE RED. STRANGER THINGS 5 production has officially begun!!!” Seeing the original crew back together made me feel some kind of time-warpy way!
The Duffer Brothers, creators behind the 80s-inspired sci-fi smash, had apparently finished scripts for the concluding episodes before delays hit due to industry strikes. Can you imagine finally getting your hands on those top secret outlines, knowing it marks the beginning of the end?
Now that production is back on track, the Duffers aim to deliver an extended, epic finale á la “Return of the King” to reward faithful viewers. Matt Duffer even teased “eight endings” in a recent interview – so prepare those tissues and eggos!
I’m looking forward to seeing how Eleven, Mike and the rest of the crew’s journey will wrap up after so many years. But the ending also means bidding farewell to an era-defining show that provided the soundtrack to so many of our stories. Like the gang, I guess we all have to move on someday. But what a wild ride it’s been so far.
So let the final countdown begin, “Stranger Things” fans! Hawkins may never be the same after this, but seasons 1 through 4 have already cemented its legacy. Here’s hoping the last ride manages to thrill us, chill us and fulfill us.
