Actor David Harbour currently stars as Chief Jim Hopper on the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things.” In a recent interview with Insider, Harbour discussed his goals after the show concludes.
Harbour recalled an early conversation with a publicist who suggested he avoid becoming too closely tied to “Stranger Things” and the Hopper character. Though Harbour says he appreciates working on the show, he aims to demonstrate his acting range in new roles.
Harbour pointed to George Clooney’s career as a model. Clooney became a movie star after his role on ER. Similarly, Harbour hopes to transition from being known as “the guy from ‘Stranger Things'” to being recognized simply as “David Harbour.”
Harbour stated he wants to showcase his talent in original films for theaters. He did not criticize “Stranger Things” fans, but expressed a desire to take on new creative challenges outside the show.
With “Stranger Things” set to end after season 5, Harbour will soon have opportunities to diversify his acting portfolio. Fans will have to stay tuned to see what roles he takes on next. But Harbour’s talent and ambition suggest he has a bright future in Hollywood beyond the walls of the upside down.
