Popular rock band Paramore has announced that they are cancelling the final two shows of their North American tour due to lead singer Hayley Williams’ ongoing battle with a lung infection.
In a statement released on August 10, 2023, the band revealed that Williams’ health has not improved enough for her to continue performing without risking long-term damage. After postponing four shows last month due to Williams’ illness, the band had hoped that rest and medication would allow her to finish the tour. However, Williams stated that after struggling through recent performances, her doctor advised her that pushing through could cause permanent harm.
As a result, Paramore made the difficult decision to cancel their remaining shows in Portland and Salt Lake City. The band expressed regret at having to disappoint fans who were looking forward to the concerts. Ticket holders will receive full refunds for the cancelled shows.
This North American tour kicked off in October 2022 in support of the band’s latest album. While the US dates have concluded early, Paramore is still scheduled to perform at an upcoming festival and embark on a world tour through 2023-2024. The status of these future concerts is unclear as Williams continues to recover from the lung infection.
Paramore stated that they did not make the decision lightly and apologized for the inconvenience to fans. However, the band emphasized that Williams’ health is the top priority. They thanked fans for their understanding and well-wishes during this trying time.
