Elmo has answered the biggest question of the Halloween season on Sesame Street: this year, he is dressing up as Miranda Priestly, the formidable fashion editor from The Devil Wears Prada.
Sesame Street shared the reveal in a short video on Tuesday, with Elmo asking, “Guess who Elmo is?” before showing off the full look: a big white wig, glasses worn low on his nose and a black blazer over a white collared shirt, all in front of the Street’s Halloween decorations. Cookie Monster is among the neighbors who wander into the frame.
Miranda Priestly is the ice-cool editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, played by Meryl Streep in the 2006 film in one of her most quoted performances. Twenty years on, Elmo has clearly done his homework.
Halloween arrives Saturday, and while plenty of costumes will be aiming for scary, the best one on Sesame Street is going for iconic instead.
