Crystal Lake is officially one of the biggest launches in Peacock history. The Friday the 13th prequel series was watched for 1.3 billion minutes in its first 11 days on the platform, according to Peacock, making it the fourth most watched scripted original series the service has ever released.
Spread across the season’s 398 minutes, that works out to roughly 3.3 million views. The only Peacock scripted series ahead of it in total minutes are The Best Man: The Final Chapters, All Her Fault and The Five Star Weekend. The show also made its mark beyond Peacock’s own charts: Variety notes that Nielsen ranked Crystal Lake as the third most watched streaming original series in the country for the week of October 19, and the third most streamed first season series across all of television. Social buzz ran just as hot, with the series pulling in 1.8 billion impressions in a single day and more than 7.6 million video views across its first 11 days.
Created by Brad Caleb Kane, who also serves as showrunner, Crystal Lake stars Linda Cardellini as Pam Voorhees, a single mother still grieving her young son Jason (Callum Vinson), who drowned in the town lake almost a year earlier. When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events leaves the town asking just who Pam Voorhees really is. The cast also includes William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom, and the series comes from A24.
The season wrapped with its finale, “The Final Chapter,” which also delivered the show’s adult Jason. As Trevor Decker News covered earlier this month, Jonathan Tison did not know he was playing Jason until the prosthetics gave it away. All eight episodes of Crystal Lake are streaming now on Peacock.
