Jon Favreau’s ‘Oswald The Lucky Rabbit’ Series Announces Lead Cast

Big news for Disney fans! Jon Favreau’s highly anticipated new Disney+ series, Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, has officially announced three of its lead actors: Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Mykal-Michelle Harris, and Ryder Allen. This live-action/animation hybrid promises to bring a classic Disney character back into the spotlight.

The series, helmed by writer, producer, and director Jon Favreau, centers on Oswald, described as a “saucy, self-absorbed bunny.” Each of the newly cast actors will play a distinct middle school student. Ravi Cabot-Conyers, known for his roles in Skeleton Crew and as the voice of Antonio in Encanto, will portray Jake, a hardworking student with a big heart. Mykal-Michelle Harris, who audiences will recognize from Raven’s Home and Mixed-ish, is set to play Jen, an artistic and perceptive character. Rounding out the trio is Ryder Allen, recently seen as a young Oswald Cobblepott in The Penguin and in the film Palmer, who will take on the role of Taylor, a cautious student who nevertheless joins his friends on adventures.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit holds a deeply significant place in the history of The Walt Disney Company. Created by Walt Disney in 1927, Oswald starred in 27 animated shorts. However, due to a contractual dispute in 1928, Universal gained control of the character. This pivotal moment led Walt Disney to create a new character as a replacement – none other than Mickey Mouse, who bears a close resemblance to Oswald.

Bringing Oswald back into the Disney fold was a long-standing priority for the company, with former Disney CEO Bob Iger orchestrating the acquisition of the trademark in 2006. The character officially entered the public domain in 2023, paving the way for new interpretations like this upcoming Disney+ series.

This new series looks to be an exciting blend of animation and live-action, bringing a piece of Disney’s foundational history to a new generation of viewers. Stay tuned for more updates on Oswald The Lucky Rabbit!
