Bluey is heading to the big screen, and fans finally have a first look at what that will actually look like. Disney and BBC Studios debuted the teaser trailer for The Bluey Movie on Friday night, unveiling it for the crowd at the Disney Entertainment Showcase during D23 in Anaheim before pushing it out online to everyone else. The film arrives in theaters worldwide on August 6, 2027, and TDN first covered the project back when the global release was confirmed for 2027.
The teaser runs well under a minute and does exactly what a Bluey teaser ought to do, which is explain almost nothing and instead drop viewers straight into a game. A red balloon drifts down out of a bright blue sky, and the Heeler family sets about keeping it airborne in a round of Keepy Uppy, the household game that became one of the series’ most quoted bits after it anchored an early episode of the same name. There is no narration, no plot exposition and no big reveal, just a family determined not to let a balloon touch the ground. A first poster went out alongside it.
What the teaser does reveal, and what is already the main talking point among longtime viewers, is the look. The series has always been flat, hand drawn 2D animation, and the movie moves the Heelers into full CG. This is the first real evidence of how that translates, and as Variety noted in its first look, the fresh 3D style is the single biggest departure from the show. The characters keep their familiar proportions and graphic simplicity rather than being rendered into anything glossy or photoreal, with the change showing up mostly in depth, lighting and the way the balloon moves through space.
Series creator Joe Brumm wrote the script and directs, with Richard Jeffery, who directed across the show’s first three seasons, co-directing. Amber Naismith produces, and series composer Joff Bush returns to score the film. Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack both reprise their roles as Chilli and Bandit. The Bluey Movie is a Ludo Studio production made in collaboration with BBC Studios, which finances and licenses the film, with Walt Disney Studios handling theatrical distribution and a Disney+ run to follow.
Plot details remain deliberately thin. The official logline says only that the film takes place across an action packed day when a big surprise changes everything for Bluey and her family, which is about the amount of information Bluey fans have learned to expect this far out from a release.
The stakes for Disney are not small. Bluey became the most watched series worldwide on Disney+ in 2024, and Deadline reports it ranked second among all streaming titles in the first half of 2026, a remarkable run for a show built on seven minute episodes about a dog family in Brisbane. Brumm has stretched the format before with The Sign, the extended Season 3 special that TDN covered when its trailer arrived, and he has said that experience made a feature feel like a natural extension rather than a leap.
D23 runs through Sunday at the Anaheim Convention Center, with showcases continuing at the nearby Honda Center.
