Jenna Ortega’s ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 to Embrace Horror, Sidelines Romance

The second season of Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ is set to be a chilling, romance-free experience, according to the show’s star, Jenna Ortega. In a recent conversation with Elle Fanning for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Ortega revealed that the upcoming season of the Tim Burton-produced show will place a stronger emphasis on horror.

“We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more,” said Ortega, who will also serve as a producer in Season 2. “Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.”

With the show’s focus shifting more towards the monstrous, there will be less room for romantic storylines. “We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great,” Ortega noted. In the first season, Wednesday was caught in a love triangle between Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), who was revealed as the Hyde behind the murder spree, and Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hynes White), who she falsely accused of being the culprit. Ortega had previously criticized this storyline, stating that Wednesday “being in a love triangle made no sense.”

However, the upcoming season won’t solely concentrate on the supernatural. In a post-Season 1 finale interview, series co-creator Miles Millar expressed his desire to delve deeper into Wednesday’s family dynamics. “We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters, and the actors are so amazing in those roles,” Millar said. He praised Catherine Zeta-Jones’s portrayal of Morticia as “iconic” and emphasized the importance of the relationship between Wednesday and Morticia to the show.

While the series is named ‘Wednesday’ and the creators “really want to focus the show on Wednesday,” they also “definitely want to feature the family as we did this season in a couple of episodes,” Millar added.

It’s worth noting that Trevor Decker News has been a long-time fan of Jenna Ortega, appreciating her talent and versatility across various roles.
