Warner Bros’ eagerly awaited sequel, Beetlejuice 2, has recently added the critically acclaimed Willem Dafoe to its star-studded cast. While the studio has not officially confirmed this casting news, Dafoe joins the ensemble that includes Jenna Ortega, who was previously announced, and fellow newcomer Justin Theroux. Original Beetlejuice stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara are also set to reprise their roles, with Monica Bellucci currently in talks for a role in the film.

The plot specifics for the sequel are still being kept under wraps. However, fans can rejoice as Tim Burton is returning to direct, working from a script by Wednesday’s Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The production team is a mix of familiar and new faces with Burton, Tommy Harper, Plan B, Marc Toberoff, and David Geffen on board, and Danny Elfman returning to compose the score. The production, which began earlier this week in London, is slated for release on September 6, 2024.

Dafoe, known for his memorable roles in films such as The Northman, Nightmare Alley, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, has a busy schedule ahead. He will be appearing in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, AND, and Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, to name just a few.

The news about Dafoe’s casting in Beetlejuice 2 was first reported by Giant Freakin Robot.
