In the wake of the recent writers strike, popular late-night talk shows like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers have been forced to go off the air. However, their hosts and network, NBC, have come together to ensure that the staff of these shows continue to receive their pay.
Along with these two shows, The Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Daily Show were also pulled off the air due to the strike. NBC has agreed to pay the staff of The Tonight Show and Late Night through the end of next week, while Fallon and Meyers will cover the costs for their crews for an additional third week. Additionally, the staff will have their healthcare benefits extended through September.
This move is reminiscent of the support shown by these hosts during the pandemic, when they continued to pay their staffs despite the shows being off air.
Both Fallon and Meyers, who are members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA), have publicly supported the ongoing strike. Meyers emphasized the importance of fair compensation for those working in show business and expressed his support for the guild’s demands during a recent Late Night episode.
