When Connect 3 heads back to Camp Rock this August in search of their next opening act, one of the new campers fighting for the spotlight will be Desi, the easygoing brother with a natural instinct for music. He’s played by Hudson Stone, and as of today, fans don’t have to wait for the movie to hear what that instinct sounds like in real life. The rising singer-songwriter and Hollywood Records signee released his debut single “Overthinker” on June 24, a guitar-driven, soulful introduction that arrives right as he steps into one of the most anticipated Disney Channel events in years.
The timing is no accident. Camp Rock 3, directed by Veronica Rodriguez and written by Eydie Faye, is set to premiere in August 2026 on Disney Channel and Disney+, reuniting Joe, Nick, and Kevin Jonas as Connect 3 alongside returning favorite Maria Canals-Barrera, with Demi Lovato executive producing. The franchise has a long history of turning its cast into bona fide recording artists, the Jonas Brothers and Lovato chief among them, so a newcomer launching a real music career in the same window feels almost like Camp Rock tradition. Hudson’s casting puts him at the center of that legacy, and “Overthinker” is his case for belonging there on the strength of the songwriting alone.
The single itself digs into the tension between the head and the heart, a theme Hudson knows intimately. “I wrote ‘Overthinker’ because all my life, I’ve been told that I’m such a deep thinker, which is very true, but it tends to lead to overthinking, which can sometimes get in my way,” he said. “When I fell in love, it was the first time I just didn’t think, and my heart took over. So, this song is a reminder to people that love is all about diving in with your whole heart.” He co-wrote the track with Brian Phillips and Tony Ferrari, pairing vintage guitar riffs with a voice that’s equal parts dulcet and gritty. The fan response has been building since he announced the song on June 9, when TikTok and Instagram lit up with videos and pleas for him to play it on his upcoming arena tour.
That sound didn’t come together by accident. Inspired by artists including Dominic Fike, John Mayer, The Strokes, and Leon Bridges, Hudson has developed a style that blends guitar-driven indie rock with soulful storytelling and modern pop influences. He’s been working with a deep bench of writers and producers as he preps more singles and an eventual debut album, including Johan Carlsson and Rickard Göransson of MXM (both Ariana Grande collaborators), John Ryan and Afterhrs (Niall Horan, Teddy Swims), Josh Varnadore and Simon Oscroft (OneRepublic, almost monday), and Phillips and Ferrari themselves. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Hudson picked up a guitar at five and never looked back, and his background, with an Australian father and a half-Korean mother, has shaped a perspective that draws from a mix of cultures. Fans may also recognize the family name. He’s the son of celebrity chef Curtis Stone and actress Lindsay Price, though he’s clearly building something entirely his own. Off the clock, you’re as likely to catch him studying for a calculus final, watching a Dallas Cowboys game, or surfing in Malibu.
From here, the runway only gets longer. After Camp Rock 3 arrives in August, Hudson heads out on his first arena run as part of the Worlds Collide Concert Tour, which kicks off September 25. A breakout franchise role, a debut single already racking up fan reactions, and a fall tour add up to one of the more compelling launches of the year, and “Overthinker” is the perfect place to start paying attention. The single is out now on Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon.
