Miramax is turning one of the most recognizable Halloween songs of all time into an animated feature film. The studio announced that it is developing a movie inspired by the 1962 novelty hit “Monster Mash,” originally recorded by Bobby “Boris” Pickett and Lenny Capizzi.

In an official statement, Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman said, “For more than 60 years, nothing has said Halloween quite like the ‘Monster Mash.’ We’re thrilled to be entrusted by the Pickett and Capizzi families and to be partnering with Reservoir Media to bring this iconic song to life as an animated musical for all audiences. It’s a project that celebrates the fun and spirit of the original and should become a perennial graveyard smash for years to come.”

The original song became an instant classic when it was released in 1962, combining catchy lyrics, spooky humor, and dance-craze energy. Its playful story of a mad scientist, his monster, and a dance that takes over the laboratory quickly made it a Halloween staple that still returns to radio and streaming charts every October.

While plot details for the upcoming film remain under wraps, the project is described as an animated musical designed to capture the song’s lighthearted and campy tone. No writer, director, or cast members have been announced yet, but early reports suggest that Miramax aims to expand the story’s world of monsters into a family-friendly adventure that could become an annual viewing tradition.

“Monster Mash” joins a growing list of nostalgic musical properties being revisited for the big screen. With its timeless charm and instantly recognizable hook, the song’s adaptation could easily appeal to both longtime fans and younger audiences discovering it for the first time.
