Angel and 2521 Entertainment Acquire David Franchise Ahead of December Theatrical Release
Angel Studios has announced that it has partnered with 2521 Entertainment to acquire David, the animated film and television series franchise inspired by the biblical story of the shepherd who defeated Goliath. The acquisition comes from Slingshot USA and marks a significant addition to Angel’s growing slate of audience-supported projects.
Set for theatrical release on December 19, 2025, David is described as one of Angel’s most anticipated titles. The project includes both a feature film and a five-part animated television series, produced by the same team behind Young David, which previously earned strong approval from the Angel Guild community.
Neal Harmon, co-founder and CEO of Angel, called David “the largest audience-funded film in history” and said acquiring the property represents a long-term investment in content that aligns with the company’s mission. Harmon added that the partnership with 2521 Entertainment will ensure the film reaches audiences with the scale of release it deserves.
As part of the acquisition, Angel is also considering expanding the David television series beyond its initial run. The company cited continued growth in its membership base—now exceeding 1.5 million Angel Guild members—as a driving factor in its commitment to develop more values-driven original series.
David L. Hunt, co-founder and chief creative officer of 2521 Entertainment, emphasized the partnership’s shared focus on meaningful storytelling. “We have found an incredible ally in this mission through our strategic alliance with Angel,” Hunt said, adding that David aims to offer families stories that “build lasting memories and connections.”
Director Phil Cunningham reflected on the film’s long creative journey, noting that the project has been decades in the making. “It is often said that you end up living the movie you are making,” Cunningham said. “This film has required immense faith and perseverance, and I’m grateful we can now bring it to the world.”
David continues the ongoing collaboration between Angel and 2521 Entertainment, whose previous joint projects include The Wingfeather Saga, Sound of Freedom, and the upcoming Young Washington. In light of the new release schedule, Angel confirmed that Zero A.D., previously planned for December 2025, will move to 2026.
