Amazon MGM Studios has set its next comedy project, Close Personal Friends, bringing together Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding. Jason Orley, who previously directed Big Time Adolescence, will helm the feature, which begins filming in London this September.

The story follows a couple who, while vacationing in Santa Barbara, becomes friends with a celebrity pair. The new relationship quickly tests personal boundaries, leading to awkward and comic situations. Orley co-developed the story with Isaac Aptaker, who wrote the script. Producing are Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger through their Walk-Up Company, alongside Maximum Effort’s Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau.

Close Personal Friends reunites Orley, Aptaker, and Berger with Amazon MGM following their earlier collaboration on the 2022 romantic comedy I Want You Back.

Larson recently starred in Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry, earning multiple award nominations, and continues her role in Marvel’s Captain Marvel franchise. Collins leads Netflix’s Emily in Paris and appeared in Maxxine. Quaid has recently been seen in Heads of State and the sci-fi thriller Companion. Golding, who first gained notice with Crazy Rich Asians, stars in Netflix’s The Gentlemen and Old Guard 2.
