Netflix has announced additional casting for its upcoming “Little House on the Prairie” reboot, which will blend familiar characters from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s novels with newly created roles as part of an Osage family. Filming is expected to begin in June in Winnipeg, Canada.
As exclusively reported by Deadline, Jocko Sims and Warren Christie have been cast as Dr. George Tann and John Edwards, respectively—two characters who will be familiar to longtime fans of the “Little House” stories. Dr. Tann is described as a generous and kind-hearted doctor with a strong connection to the community, based on the real physician who treated the Ingalls family during a malaria outbreak. John Edwards is portrayed as a Civil War veteran from Tennessee, known for his lively personality and mysterious past.
The series will also introduce a new extended Osage family, with Meegwun Fairbrother playing Mitchell, a successful farmer in Kansas known for his impressive homestead and gentle nature. Alyssa Wapanatâhk will appear as White Sun, Mitchell’s wife, whose sharp sense of humor and thoughtful outlook often bring a unique perspective to the family dynamic. Their daughter, Good Eagle, played by Wren Zhawenim Gotts, is recognized for her imaginative spirit and storytelling talent. Little Puma, White Sun’s younger brother played by Xander Cole, is characterized as good-hearted yet bull-headed, still trying to find his place in the world.
These new cast members join the previously announced Ingalls family: Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls, and Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls.
Described as part family drama, part epic survival story, and part origin tale of the American West, the reboot comes from showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine and is produced by CBS Studios. Executive producers include Sonnenshine, Joy Gorman Wettels, Trip Friendly, Dana Fox, and Susanna Fogel, with Sarah Adina Smith directing the first episode.
The series aims to offer a fresh take on the “Little House on the Prairie” legacy, weaving in new cultural perspectives through its Osage family characters. Production will be handled by CBS Studios in partnership with Anonymous Content Studio.
