While CBS carried the official broadcast of Super Bowl LVII between the Chiefs and 49ers, Nickelodeon offered a family-friendly alternative broadcast that was a huge hit. Nickelodeon infused their telecast with appearances from popular characters like SpongeBob and Dora the Explorer while making the game more relatable and entertaining for kids.

Viewers raved about the Nickelodeon broadcast on social media, calling it “absolutely electric.” The pre-game festivities featured SpongeBob performing “Sweet Victory” with jellyfish and other Bikini Bottom residents making cameos. During gameplay, Dora the Explorer popped in as the “rules expert” to explain penalties and other game developments to the audience.

Graphics and animations made players more recognizable and fun for children, like referring to Travis Kelce as “Taylor Swift’s boyfriend” and showing Patrick Mahomes wearing a pirate hat. Nickelodeon also created pun-filled fish versions of celebrities in attendance like “Claumuel L. Jackson” and “LePrawn James.”

The Nickelodeon commentators, SpongeBob and Patrick, brought plenty of humor with their reactions to the action on the field. After one fumble, Patrick advised the player to “firmly grasp” the football next time.

By catering to kids with relatable characters, creative graphics and age-appropriate commentary, Nickelodeon’s Super Bowl broadcast was a touchdown with both children and adults. The family-friendly telecast provided a lively, entertaining alternative for viewers of all ages.
