For King & Country Reimagines a Michael W. Smith Classic for New Film

The popular Christian music duo For King & Country have released a cover of the iconic 1990 Michael W. Smith song “Place in This World” for the soundtrack of the upcoming film “Unsung Hero.” This musical collaboration is especially meaningful, as the film tells the true story of the Smallbone family’s journey from Australia to Nashville as they overcame challenges through faith and music.

The inspiration behind Michael W. Smith originally writing “Place in This World” makes its use in the film even more poignant. Back in 1990, Smith received many heartbreaking letters from teenage fans struggling to find meaning and purpose. One such letter contained the phrase “I’m just trying to find my place in this world” – lending the song its iconic title and setting the tone for its message of hope. Having provided comfort and wisdom to lost youth over 30 years ago, the song’s themes now come full circle, underpinning a movie centered around family, faith, and finding your way. Its inclusion adds a layer of insight into the characters’ emotional journeys.

Joel Smallbone, one half of the duo, stars in the film as his own father while also co-directing. Having a direct personal and creative stake in the project brings authenticity and heart to the movie. Smith himself is also involved, as his signature track is reimagined by For King & Country featuring Smith as a guest. Blending musical generations, this duet connects the past and present of Christian music.

The song will be part of an “Inspired By” soundtrack album coinciding with the April 26th release of “Unsung Hero.” Reflecting major themes from the film, this compilation album interweaves music and narrative in an emotional journey about family and belief.

As we eagerly await the film and soundtrack, this early glimpse – For King & Country reworking a Michael W. Smith classic – already has us resonating with the story. When music and film intertwine in such a personal way, the result is sure to be profoundly moving.
