Grammy-winning artist Olivia Rodrigo has recorded the feature song for the upcoming “The Hunger Games” prequel, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” The news was announced by Lionsgate during a Times Square takeover in New York City, where stars Rachel Zegler, Tom Blyth, and Josh Andrés Rivera made surprise appearances to mark the first day of ticket sales.
Rodrigo’s ballad, “Can’t Catch Me Now,” will be released on November 3, with a snippet available for listening above. The Times Square event also included a sneak peek at the film and a live performance of “The Hanging Tree,” a ballad from the franchise composed by James Newton Howard.
Rodrigo, known for her hit single “drivers license” and her albums “Sour” and “Guts,” joins a list of esteemed artists who have contributed to the legacy of the “Hunger Games” franchise, including Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Coldplay.
“The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” follows a young Coriolanus Snow, played by Tom Blyth, as he mentors District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird, portrayed by Rachel Zegler. The film delves into the complexities of their relationship as they navigate the treacherous terrain of the Hunger Games. The movie is set to be released on November 17.
