Lila McCann first burst onto the 90s country scene as a teenager with her breakout hit “Down Came a Blackbird.” Born in 1981, she got her start performing in her father’s band as a child. By 16, she landed a record deal and soon released her smash single “Down Came a Blackbird,” quickly followed by her platinum debut album Lila in 1997.
Around the same time, McCann appeared in the role of aspiring singer Kelly Wyman on CBS’ Walker, Texas Ranger, showing her cross-genre appeal. Through the late 90s, she racked up hits as a rising teen country star.
Though she scaled back her mainstream popularity after starting a family in the 2000s, McCann continued releasing music for her loyal fans. In 2019, she came out as openly gay, getting married that same year. The singer has been actively involved in the LGBTQ community in Nashville, where she now lives.
Now, her new TikTok presence has 90s country music fans excited about what’s next. In the description for one of her first TikTok videos, McCann wrote:
“Its a busy work day for me in Nashville but wanted to shout out to @Christy Girl for the love! Also- just wanted you all to know this is really me. ???? More coming soon. Hang in with me- Im not a spring chicken and im new to this! #lilamccann #countrymusic #90scountry #redhairdontcare #90scountrymusic #iwannafallinlove”
The “more coming soon” hint has fueled speculation among her longtime fans that new music could be on the horizon from this former teen country phenomenon.
With her impressive vocals and relatable songwriting, McCann’s talents are as resonant as ever. Her fans eagerly await what this small-town girl turned 90s Nashville star might belt out next!
