It’s official – M3GAN 2.0 is on its way! Universal Pictures has announced that the sequel to the hit film will be released on January 17, 2025. This news comes as no surprise, as the original M3GAN has been raking in huge numbers at the box office. In its second week, the film has already earned $92 million globally, off of a $12 million budget.
M3GAN’s opening weekend was a huge success, bringing in $30.4 million and experiencing a strong second weekend drop of only -40%. The film’s domestic gross currently stands at $61.6 million.
Fans of the original film will be excited to know that the sequel is already in the works. The script is being written by Akela Cooper, who also wrote the script for the first film. Cooper has also written for other successful films such as Malignant and The Nun 2. The sequel will also see the return of stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw. Williams will not only reprise her role, but will also serve as a producer, just as she did on the first film.
The production team behind M3GAN 2.0 will also include some familiar names. Jason Blum, James Wan, and Michael Clear and Judson Scott of Wan’s Atomic Monster banner will serve as producers. Ryan Turek of Blumhouse and Mark Katchur will act as executive producers, along with Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath from Divide/Conquer.
In other news, it’s been reported that Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are in final talks to merge, which could lead to even more exciting film projects in the future.
