Universal has released a new featurette for the upcoming killer doll movie, M3GAN, set to hit theaters on January 6, 2023. The film tells the story of a life-like doll, programmed to be a child’s best friend and a trusty assistant to concerned parents, who is gifted to a young girl who has recently lost both of her parents. However, as the doll, named M3GAN, begins to listen, watch, and learn from her environment and her new friend, her true capabilities as a killer AI are revealed.
The featurette gives a glimpse into M3GAN’s terrifying abilities, from dancing with a paper cutter to running on all fours through the forest. James Wan, who serves as producer on the film, is no stranger to the horror genre, with his Blumhouse Productions responsible for creepy films such as The Boy and Annabelle. M3GAN looks to be just as unsettling as Wan’s previous contributions to the genre.
Directed by Gerard Johnstone and featuring a screenplay by Akela Cooper and Wan, the film stars Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Ronny Chieng, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Lori Dungey, and Stephane Garneau-Monten. Until its release, you can watch the new first-look featurette for M3GAN above and decide for yourself if you’re ready to face the killer AI doll.
