Following its usage in the blockbuster Netflix series Wednesday, which stars Jenna Ortega in the role of Wednesday Addams, ‘Goo Goo Muck’ by The Cramps has seen a huge increase in streaming in the United States.
The song appeared on The Cramps’ 1981 second album, ‘Psychedelic Jungle,’ although its original artists, Ronnie Cook and The Gaylads, recorded it in 1962.
The rockabilly song has gotten newfound recognition four decades later, thanks to its inclusion in the fourth episode of Wednesday, titled Woe What A Night. ‘Goo Goo Muck’ serves as the music to Wednesday Addams’ choreographed dance number at Nevermore Academy.
In the United States, the Cramps song had 2,500 daily on-demand streams (per Billboard). That statistic increased by approximately 500% in the five days after its inclusion in the series, reaching 134,000 daily US streams by November 28. Currently, ‘Goo Goo Muck’ has over 10 million Spotify streams.
Wednesday just overtook Stranger Things 4 as Netflix’s most-watched English-language series in a single week.
