Another night, another trophy for Inde Navarrette. The Obsession breakout took home the Breakthrough Actress Award for film at the Critics Choice Association‘s sixth annual Celebración of Cinema & Television on Friday night at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, ComicBasics confirmed in its ceremony recap.
Inde could not attend in person, so she accepted with a video speech played for the room. In it, she spoke of her pride in being part of the Latin filmmaking community, said she was in “insane disbelief” to be honored alongside the night’s talent, and thanked director Curry Barker, saying none of it would exist without him, along with co-stars Michael Johnston, Megan Lawless, and Cooper Tomlinson, the rest of the cast and crew, and Focus Features.
The Celebración honors standout work from the Latino and Hispanic entertainment community onscreen and off. Friday’s honorees also included John Leguizamo, who received the Career Achievement Award.
The win keeps Inde’s remarkable run going. Her turn as Nikki in Obsession already earned her a Critics’ Choice Award, and the film has grossed $500 million worldwide. Next up, she plays Rogue in Marvel’s X-Men reboot and hosts SNL’s Halloween episode on October 31.
