The script comes from an unexpected corner. Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf, the co-creators of Comedy Central’s absurdist Big Time in Hollywood, FL, are writing the screenplay, according to Deadline, from a story Trachtenberg developed with Rayna McClendon.
The untitled film is an original idea inspired by the classic tale, not a remake, and it has no connection to Disney’s Maleficent films starring Angelina Jolie. The project is in early development, with plot details kept under wraps.
Trachtenberg will produce alongside his longtime partner Ben Rosenblatt and Star Wars producer Michelle Rejwan. Disney’s Jessica Virtue and Alina Mota are overseeing the film for the studio, reporting to live-action president Daria Cercek.
The hire follows Trachtenberg’s run reviving the Predator franchise for 20th Century Studios, beginning with 2022’s Prey, a Hulu hit that earned an Emmy nomination, and continuing with Predator: Badlands and the animated Predator: Killer of Killers. He is also in pre-production on a separate top-secret film at Paramount.
