Deadline reports that Lohan will also produce the film, extending a Netflix partnership that has already delivered Falling for Christmas, Irish Wish and Our Little Secret.
The story is set in 2008. Lohan plays a powerful but lonely attorney who mistakenly receives an emotional DVD recorded by a dying woman for her husband, played by Golding. Guided only by the clues on the disc, she sets out to find him.
Eric Champnella wrote the screenplay. Mark Waters, who directed Lohan in both Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, will direct, reuniting the pair for a third film. Brad Krevoy, who produced Lohan’s first two Netflix romances, returns as a producer, with Olivia Krevoy, Jimmy Townsend, Galen Fletcher and Eric Champ executive producing.
Golding broke out as the leading man of Crazy Rich Asians and later headlined the holiday romance Last Christmas.
Lohan recently returned to theaters with Freakier Friday, the sequel to her 2003 hit, and she will next star in and executive produce Count My Lies, Hulu’s limited series adaptation of Sophia Stava’s novel.
Update: Netflix has confirmed that Return to You is now in production, announcing the news on Instagram on Monday.
