Pour yourself a cup of ambition. 20th Century Studios announced today that a newly restored 9 to 5 is returning to theaters nationwide for a one-week engagement, October 9 through 15. The announcement arrived on Give Like Dolly Day, a new annual celebration of Dolly Parton’s legacy observed every September 25, a date chosen as a nod to the film’s title.
The re-release carries a cause close to Dolly’s heart. Disney will donate net proceeds from each U.S. ticket purchase to The Dollywood Foundation, through CAF America, in support of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the childhood literacy program that has mailed hundreds of millions of free books to children around the world. Tickets are on sale now.
The 1980 workplace comedy stars Parton as Doralee Rhodes alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as three office workers who band together to get even with their tyrannical boss, played by Dabney Coleman. Directed by Colin Higgins, the film earned Parton an Academy Award nomination for the hit title song she wrote and performed.
The film’s enduring appeal was on full display last month, when ABC’s August 30 broadcast of 9 to 5 averaged 4.275 million viewers, as TDN reported.
Give Like Dolly Day is set to become an annual tradition, encouraging the world to make a difference in a child’s life and honor Parton’s lifelong mission, inspiring children to “Dream More, Learn More, Care More and Be More.”
