Netflix is finally willing to show its theatrical cards. The streamer will begin reporting box office grosses for six upcoming movies it is giving theatrical releases, a first for a company that has long kept those numbers under wraps.
DiscussingFilm flagged the list today, pointing to reporting from Variety. The six titles are Ink, Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, La Bola Negra, The Mosquito Bowl, the animated Charlie vs The Chocolate Factory, and David Fincher’s The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.
That matters because Netflix has spent years running limited or awards-minded theatrical windows without publishing weekend totals the way traditional studios do. Variety’s reporting frames the move as part of a broader thaw with exhibitors: La Bola Negra, the Penélope Cruz drama that took Cannes heat this spring, is lined up for a 46-day theatrical run before streaming, while Narnia and Charlie are both expected to play wide for roughly seven weeks. Narnia is also headed for Imax screens.
For TDN readers who have been tracking Gerwig’s adaptation, this sits on top of the wide theatrical plan TDN covered earlier, when Netflix locked February 12, 2027 for theaters and April 2 for the streaming drop. Reporting actual grosses would let audiences and the industry see whether that window behaves like a studio event or stays a long lead-in to Netflix.
The other titles push the same point from different corners of the slate — Fincher’s Cliff Booth follow-up, Jack O’Connell’s Ink, The Mosquito Bowl, and the Charlie film — all getting the kind of theatrical real estate Netflix used to treat as optional. If the company follows through on publishing those numbers, the experiment stops being theoretical. We will be able to watch the results in public.
