Director Mike Flanagan’s chair from the set of Carrie, signed by cast and crew, shared on his Instagram as he confirmed the series has officially wrapped filming.

The wait for Mike Flanagan’s Carrie adaptation just got a lot more concrete. Katee Sackhoff revealed at Fan Expo Vancouver this past Saturday that the series will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in October.

During her panel, Sackhoff couldn’t help but gush about the project, telling attendees they’re “in for a treat” and emphasizing how good the series turned out. While she remained appropriately tight-lipped about specific plot details—only confirming there will be “fire” and “might be some blood”—her enthusiasm for what Flanagan has created was unmistakable.

The eight-episode series represents Flanagan’s first major project under his Amazon Studios deal, following his acclaimed adaptations of King’s Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck. The production searched through over 1,800 candidates before selecting Summer H. Howell for the lead role, and Flanagan has called it one of his favorite projects ever and one of the best ensembles he’s worked with.

Production filmed in Vancouver from June through late October 2025, with Howell leading a cast that includes Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle, and an ensemble featuring Amber Midthunder, Josie Totah, and several Flanagan regulars like Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, and Rahul Kohli.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect for a psychological horror series. Releasing in October means the show will debut during the Halloween season, and with Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, fans will have ideal viewing conditions for what promises to be Flanagan’s signature style of smart, atmospheric horror.

Sackhoff also touched on the growing “Flanniverse” and the unique relationship between Flanagan and Stephen King. She noted that King has developed such trust in Flanagan’s adaptations that he’s essentially giving the director access to his entire library. It’s a remarkable vote of confidence from an author who’s seen countless adaptations of his work over the decades, and particularly significant given that Carrie was King’s first published novel in 1974.

With the series complete and polished for months now, Amazon appears to be strategically holding it for maximum impact during the Halloween season. Given Flanagan’s track record and the ensemble talent assembled for this reimagining of King’s classic tale, October can’t come soon enough.
