Violet and Madeleine McGraw got to do something on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Monday that they do not get to do in most of their films: play sisters, out loud, as themselves. The real-life sisters stopped by the show to talk about Double Trouble, the Christmas action comedy that has them sharing the screen as, for once, actual siblings.
In the film, in theaters since October 9, Madeleine plays Charlotte and Violet plays Willow, two quick-witted sisters on a Las Vegas vacation who get swept into the middle of a jewelry heist and team up with a jaded security guard, played by Andrew Koji, to catch the culprit before their parents realize they are missing. The sisters described it to Hudson as a fun action comedy about the two of them getting caught up in a crazy jewelry heist in Las Vegas, which is about as tidy a summary as the one Trevor Decker News readers got when the film’s first trailer arrived in August and its first clip followed in October.
Hudson noted that the last time the sisters visited, they were promoting a Halloween film, and asked which holiday wins. Christmas took it, and not just for the movies, though Home Alone got an enthusiastic mention. Most of their family’s birthdays fall in December too, so the whole month is one long celebration.
The centerpiece of that celebration is a family gingerbread house competition that the sisters treat like a title bout. The houses are judged fairly, one of them explained: she posts them on Instagram anonymously and lets a poll decide. That has not stopped a small dynasty from forming, since she has also won the last two years. Both sisters agreed the real one to beat is their mom, whom they crowned the queen of gingerbread houses.
The holiday memories run deep. One favorite childhood gift was a set of mannequins, claimed because the sisters love Project Runway; their mom would hand them design themes and let them style away. The acting bug traces back just as far, between animated movies, seeing Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow and wanting the action scenes for herself, and, for Violet, watching Madeleine film Outcast amid the stunts and effects and deciding on the spot to try it.
That shared-screen story is a familiar one for Trevor Decker News readers. The sisters’ first film together was The Curse of the Necklace; Trevor Decker News covered its release in October 2024 and reviewed the film days later. Their work together and apart has stayed on the site ever since, from Violet’s M3GAN 2.0 and Madeleine’s Black Phone 2 to Double Trouble’s own path from filming in Las Vegas to its Los Angeles premiere.
Hudson called them screen queens and icons, and the sisters laughed it off as something that still does not feel real, sequels and all. Two years apart in age and finishing each other’s answers on the couch, they spent the segment proving her point about the twin energy. Double Trouble is in theaters now, and the same Hudson episode also put the sisters head-to-head with America Ferrera in a generations game, which the show has posted as its own clip.
