Lionsgate released a new trailer, posters, and images today for THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING. The fresh look at the upcoming prequel gives fans their most exciting glimpse yet at the 50th Hunger Games and the story of a young Haymitch Abernathy.
The film opens in theaters November 20, 2026. Directed by Francis Lawrence from Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the screenplay is by Billy Ray and Michael Lesslie.
It stars Joseph Zada as 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy alongside Mckenna Grace as fellow tribute Maysilee Donner, plus Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Ben Wang.
Set 24 years before the original films, SUNRISE ON THE REAPING follows Haymitch into the 50th Hunger Games, the Second Quarter Quell, where he forms an unlikely alliance with Maysilee and joins a coalition challenging the Capitol’s control.
